A screen reader reads everything directly from the code... sometimes with unexpected and unhelpful results!
What's a screen reader?
It's a device that helps people who are blind or don't see well by reading web pages out loud.
Problem: A poorly coded web page might sound strange, and provide no useful information:
"Table. Table row. Table data. Come visit space the ABC shop. Space. Dotted blue line. Table row. Table data. We’ll help you choose. Space. the perfect gift. Space. Table row…".
Solution: Pink Skunk Web Design uses CSS, XHTML, and alternate text for all important images. Our version would sound like this:
"Come visit the ABC shop. We'll help you choose the perfect gift".
